Testing Democracy Increased access to modern technologies is changing how people communicate and make decisions as communities. To address this, Professor Lily Tsai and colleagues launched MIT’s Strengthening Democracy Initiative to highlight important research on how healthy democracies function. “How trust and technology come together in a way that members of communities accept the results even when they disagree with them is important for living in diverse societies,” Tsai says. The exhibit spotlights how MIT researchers are measuring tree canopy cover in cities as part of an effort to design cities that are more sustainable and livable.
