Supply Chain Sustainability
Corporations are actively seeking sustainability advances in their supply chains — but many need to improve the business metrics they use in this area to realize more progress, according to a new report by MIT researchers. “What we found is strong evidence that sustainability still matters,” says Josué Velázquez Martínez, director of the MIT Sustainable Supply Chain Lab.

MIT Lincoln Laboratory develops ocean mapping technology in Boston Harbor // Chronicle
Researchers at MIT Lincoln Laboratory are developing automated electric vessels as part of an effort to map the ocean floor and help improve search and rescue missions. “Ship-based echo sounders cover wide areas but with poor resolution, while undersea vehicles have resolution but search too slowly,” says Andrew March, an assistant group leader in Lincoln Laboratory’s Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group. “It’s called a moonshot. We know less about Earth’s seabed than the moon’s surface.”
Look Back
In November 1995, renowned primatologist Jane Goodall spoke at MIT to a capacity audience of more than 500 in Room 10-250 (and in overflow space out in the hall). In a talk sponsored by the MIT List Visual Arts Center in connection with an exhibit on great apes, Goodall recalled her life in science and her decades-long work with chimpanzees in Africa. She followed the talk by signing autographs for many of the MIT community members in attendance. Goodall, who continued to speak around the world on environmental conservation for the next 30 years, died last week at age 91. Photo: The Tech.
